Why does this happen?
When vizrm builds an org chart, it needs every contact to have a valid manager.
If a contact's manager is no longer found, the org chart breaks, so vizrm automatically inserts a Placeholder to keep the chart intact.
The two most common reasons are:
The manager was deleted from the CRM, and the contact no longer exists.
The manager was moved to a different organization in the CRM, so the contact exists but is no longer associated with this account.
Where does the Placeholder appear on the chart?
The placement depends on whether you are storing reportin information in your CRM using a Manager Field or not.
No Manager Field set: The placeholder stays in the same position it occupied before. It remains where the original contact was:
Manager Field was set: The placeholder moves to the top of the org chart, since vizrm can no longer resolve the hierarchy above it.
How to resolve a Placeholder
There are three ways to fix a placeholder, ordered from most to least recommended:
Option 1: Use the Replace feature on the Placeholder (recommended)
vizrm lets you replace a placeholder directly from the org chart. This is the quickest fix and also works if you want to assign a brand-new contact as the manager. To use it:
Click on the placeholder node in the org chart & select Assign Person from the contact menu
Search for an existing contact (note: this will search the whole CRM, so you will also find the contact if they have been moved to another organization) or create a new one.
The placeholder is removed, and the selected contact takes its place, with all reportees automatically reassigned.
Option 2: Move the manager back to the correct org in your CRM
If the manager was accidentally moved to a different organization, simply re-associate them with the correct account in your CRM. vizrm will not remove the placeholder, so you will have to add the contact again from the sidebar and clean up the org chart again - or follow the steps of Option 1 to replace the placeholder.
