About Informal Relationships

vizrm org charts support two classes of relationships:

  1. Formal Relationships which display organizational hierarchy. This is modeled through the drag-and-drop functionality. Formal Relationships are 1:1 relationships between two persons, groups, or organizations.

  2. Informal Relationships display connections between individuals that are not necessarily in a hierarchical way, e.g., influence, relationship status, or other connections. Informal relationships can be many to many relations between person objects (informal relationships can not be created between groups or organizations).

Informal Relationships can have a color, line style (dashed / solid) and label.

Create an informal relationship between two persons

To create an informal relationship, select an object on the org chart and click the contact menu (3 dots on the top-right of the contact). From the contact menu, select the option “Add Relationship”. An arrow will appear from the contact to the mouse cursor.

Next, click on another person's object on the chart to create an informal relationship.

After creating an informal relationship, the color, line style, and label can be edited.

Editing and removing informal relationships

To edit or remove an informal relationship, click on the label in the center of the relationship line. This will provide the following options:

  1. Edit the label: change the label text that describes the relationship in the input field

  2. Line style: the bottom left button switches the style between dashed and solid.

  3. Line color: change by clicking the color box

  4. Save changes by clicking the button with the checkmark icon

  5. Delete the relationship line by clicking the button with the trash can icon

  6. Abort changes by clicking the X-symbol at the top-right
